Four people injured by police dog in Derbyshire

POLICE are investigating how a Greater Manchester police dog escaped from its kennel while off duty and injured four people in Glossop.

Local police were first alerted to the incident on Thursday, February 7, at 7pm when a man reported he had been bitten by a German Shepherd type dog on Pennine Road in the town.

Thirty minutes later a 13-year-old girl was bitten on her arm and leg on Charlestown Road.

One man, aged 48, who tried to rescue her, sustained some scratches and had his shirt ripped

An 18-year-old man who also helped was bitten on his arm. A third man who assisted escaped without injury.

The dog ran off towards Freetown and was captured by its handler at about 9.50pm on King Street.

Derbyshire Constabulary will be fully investigating the circumstances of this incident and part of this investigation will include liaising with Greater Manchester Police.
