An inquiry into child exploitation in the UK has heard that the notorious Rochdale grooming case is "the tip of the iceberg".

Deputy children's commissioner Sue Berelowitz told MPs on the Home Affairs Select Committee that child abuse is rife across the country.
The watchdog said girls as young as 11 "expect" to have to perform sex acts on rows of boys for up to two hours at a time in parts of London, according to her research.

She also said it was "quite common" for girls to be lured via internet chat rooms to meet a friend, only to be met by a group of boys and gang raped in a park.

"In urban, rural and metropolitan areas, I have hard evidence of children being sexually exploited," she said.
"That is part of what is going on in some parts of our country. It is very sadistic; it is very violent it is very ugly."

Car parks were among the places where alleged sex abuse took place by gang in Rochdale
Car parks were among the places where the sex abuse took place
Ms Berelowitz said she agreed when committee chairman Keith Vaz MP said the Rochdale case - where nine men were jailed for their part in a child sexual exploitation ring - appeared to be the tip of the iceberg.

During the gang's trial at Liverpool Crown Court it emerged they had plied the girls with fast food, drink and drugs so they could "pass them around" and use them for sex.

The men, who are all from Pakistan except one man who is from Afghanistan, targeted white, vulnerable girls.

The abuse happened in and around Rochdale in 2008 and 2009 and centred around two takeaway restaurants which are now under new management.

One 13-year-old victim fell pregnant and had the child aborted. Another teenager recalled being raped by two men while she was so drunk she was vomiting over the side of the bed.

Grooming trial
Nine men were found guilty. One cannot be identified for legal reasons

Some of the girls were forced to have sex with several men in a day, several times a week.
Colin Lambert, the leader of Rochdale Borough Council, told the committee it was wrong to say the problem was linked to a specific racial group.

"It's too easy to badge a crime. It takes away from the crime itself where you can say 'it only occurs in this particular community'", he said.

The victims of the Rochdale gang were all described by police to have come from "chaotic", "council estate" backgrounds.

Kabeer Hassan, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Rauf, Mohammed Sajid, Adil Khan, Mohammed Amin, Abdul Qayyum, Hamid Safi and a 59-year-old man who can't be named for legal reasons were jailed for a total of 77 years.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is currently investigating a series of mistakes by Greater Manchester Police and the CPS for failing to take the first victim seriously when she first reported the abuse.
She carried on being targeted by the gang until December 2008 when she fell pregnant and moved away.

Offensive speech in Britain

Ever since the case of the offensive ceramic pigs in 1998, the British have been assiduously refining their methods for dealing with offenses to Islam.  Earlier this year, Bruce Bawer at Frontpage recounted the tale of David Jones, who was going through security at Gatwick Airport when he made a stray comment that brought down the full force of the Speech Police on his head (emphasis added):
[A]ccording to the Telegraph, “he spotted a Muslim woman in hijab pass through the area without showing her face” and, in a “light-hearted aside to a security official who had been assisting him,” said: “If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.”

Kapow! Poor Mr. Jones spent the next hour or so being lectured about what he was and was not allowed to say by an airline official, a police officer, and several security guards, one of whom identified herself as a Muslim and told him she was “deeply distressed” by his comment. Of course it was Jones who was being unjustly harassed and who had every right to feel “deeply distressed,” but, as he later pointed out, “Something like George Orwell’s 1984 now seems to have arrived in Gatwick airport,” so that it is now considered reasonable for individuals in positions of power to claim that they are being caused “distress” by the very people whom they, in an outrageous abuse of power, are in the very process of tormenting. The cop on the scene even instructed Jones “that we now live in a different time and some things are not to be said.”
It now turns out that not only are things not to be said, but no one else is to be allowed to know what was said when someone is jailed for saying them.

A Mr. Darren Conway of Gainsborough, Leicestershire, was sentenced in March to 12 months in prison for the crime of posting “offensive” posters about Mohammed and Islam on the window of his apartment.   According to the Gainsborough Standard, Conway said he printed the posters from images at Facebook, which suggests he found them online through his connection with the British National Party (BNP).  Presumably the images are no longer available, or there is no way to verify which ones he printed out.  At any rate, the British authorities and the media offered no details about the posters after the police removed them.

A number of British citizens were naturally interested in what was on the posters, since they got a man convicted and sent to prison.  It does seem reasonable for the people to know what will get them locked up.  “Offensive to Islam” could mean a lot of things, and no one should have to guess what’s considered actionably offensive.  One report (cited at the Frontpage link, previous paragraph) indicated that one of the posters depicted a rally of the English Defence League, but it offered no particulars about any of the other posters and how they were offensive to Islam.

So Edgar Davidson, a British blogger, made a Freedom of Information request to the crown prosecutor for details about the offensive posters displayed by Conway.  The prosecutor declined his request last week, offering this explanation:
There is a substantial public interest in many circumstances in protecting from disclosure information gathered for the purposes of a criminal case. The defendant in this case was prosecuted as he publically displayed the offensive posters referred to in your request. As displaying this material was proven to be a criminal offence in a criminal court, and the graphic and violent images depicted in these posters caused offence in the neighbourhood in which they were displayed, there is a very strong public interest in these articles not being distributed any further.
Davidson invokes the adjective “Kafkaesque” in describing this interaction.  Bruce Bawer cites a public statement by Ms. Judith Walker of the crown prosecutor’s organization, and parses it as follows:
We all owe Walker a debt of gratitude, for in this statement she takes us right to the heart of the matter, giving us a crystal-clear picture of how these people think. To place in the window of your home slogans and pictures that add up to a criticism of Islamic ideology is not to exercise your freedom of speech; it is to commit an act of “harassment” that has no place “in a tolerant society” and that must therefore be punished.

Note Walker’s chillingly Orwellian understanding of the concept of freedom, which has its roots not in Magna Carta or the Enlightenment but in sharia. When she says that it is “essential that everyone in our community is free to live without harassment,” she means nothing more or less than this: that it is the right of Muslims in Britain to live in a society free of criticism of their religion. And when she says that “anyone who jeopardises that freedom will face prosecution,” she means this: that any British citizen who thinks that he enjoys the right under British law to criticize anything, including Islam, is mistaken; he does not have any such right; and if he acts as if he does, he will be incarcerated.
We don’t know what was on those posters in Darren Conway’s window.  If he printed them off Facebook, they probably weren’t mind-bendingly offensive, but more on the order of juvenilia.  They were on Facebook long enough for him to find them.  In any case, Conway was convicted of a “religiously aggravated public order offence”; he was not convicted of making threats, of incitement, or of soliciting criminal activity.  He was convicted, in other words, of exercising free speech.

It’s worth noting that the jail sentence under national law is in fact the point here.  The posters may well have been offensive to a Muslim, and I would very likely sympathize with a Muslim who was offended, as I would with a Christian offended at repulsive depictions of Jesus or screeds against Christianity.  If I saw virulently anti-religious posters on someone’s window in my neighborhood, I might well check with the city to see if there was anything that could be done about them.  Local ordinances can often be brought to bear in these matters.  I don’t necessarily have a problem with Conway’s posters being taken down, especially in a residential area, if due process of law is followed.  If the landlord simply didn’t want them there (I doubt Mr. Conway owned his flat), that would be good enough to justify their removal.

But that’s not how Conway’s case was handled.  He was sent to jail, for something that should at worst have been a matter of violating a local ordinance, or failing to comply with the terms of his lease.  On the other hand, his infraction may not have involved either of those things.  We may agree that not everything should be displayed in a window, but we also may not have laws prohibiting everything that might be.  This case is clearly about punishing speech.

How long before the United States reaches this stage?  That’s a good question.  The independence of the 50 states gives us a running start in the other direction, as this article by Jerry Gordon at the New English Review indicates.  Most of the piece is about developments in Tennessee, where the director of the state Department of Safety and Homeland Security met with resistance from the legislature when he set up a “Muslim advisory council” that included organizations with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood

But Gordon also recounts the ways in which the federal government – e.g., the Holder Justice Department – has put its finger on the scale and committed itself to overriding the state authorities.  A key example cited by Gordon is the controversial Murfreesboro Islamic Center, whose construction was halted in late May by a county judge, after the petitioner demonstrated that the community had not been given notice of the center’s planning in accordance with the law.  This is a rule of law issue, not an issue of “Islam”; the construction of churches is halted by lawsuits pretty often (see this one in Leesburg, VA, this one in the Hamptons, and this one on Oahu, along with this saga of a synagogue in Los Angeles, and another in New Haven, CT).

As Gordon reports, however:
The USDOJ under Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez in charge of civil rights litigation acted promptly to threaten action in federal court seeking to overturn [county Judge] Corlew’s rulings on the grounds that it constituted religious discrimination.
Rushing to find “religious discrimination,” when the breach cited by a judge is both valid and unrelated to religious discrimination, is the kind of distortion of law we have to be on the watch for.  Tennessee has a right to enforce its due process for building permits, even when it’s Muslims who want to build an Islamic center.  The law should not assume Muslims are being discriminated against when it is applied to them equally.

But back in the UK, Mark Thompson, director-general of BBC, made it clear in an interview in February that whatever the government may do, the BBC will be treating Muslims and Islam differently.  He was quite open about treating Christians will less sensitivity than Muslims, while revealing that, when it came to “other” religions, “producers had to consider the possibilities of ‘violent threats’ instead of polite complaints if they pushed ahead with certain types of satire.”
Mr. Thompson said: ‘Without question, “I complain in the strongest possible terms”, is different from, “I complain in the strongest possible terms and I am loading my AK47 as I write”. This definitely raises the stakes.’
That’s one way of looking at it.  Another is that the stakes are raised most effectively by Western media and Western governments taking the pole position in the corruption of our laws and our beliefs about protecting freedom and equality.

Father of Toulouse shooter Mohamed Merah files murder lawsuit

The father of the al-Qaeda-inspired gunman Mohamed Merah went on a killin spree in France before being shot dead by police, has filed a murder suit in Paris, his lawyers said Monday.

Mohamed Benalel Merah said in March that he wanted to sue the RAID elite police unit that shot dead his son on March 22 during a shoot-out at the end of a 32-hour siege at his flat in the southern French city.

The 23-year-old had shot dead three soldiers, and three children and a teacher at a Jewish school, in a wave of killings that shocked the country.

He filmed himself carrying out the attacks and reportedly confessed to police before he was shot dead.

"This is a suit against unnamed persons for murder with aggravating circumstances concerning those who gave the orders at the top of the police" during the assault on Merah's flat in Toulouse, said lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre.

"You've got 300 to 400 heavily armed people and a guy shut up all alone in his apartment. That alone is enough to raise questions," said Ms Coutant-Peyre, who is part of Merah's legal team headed by Algerian lawyer Zahia Mokhtari.

She said the family had video evidence that would be handed over to the authorities when they requested it.

Mokhtari said in April that she had proof that Merah was "liquidated", including two 20-minute videos probably filmed by Merah himself before he was shot dead.

Sharia4Belgium leader to stay in gaol

The leader of the Muslim fundamentalist organisation Sharia4Belgium, Fouad Belkacem, will stay in goal for at least six months. Belgian Justice Minister Annemie Turtelboom (Flemish liberal) has made it clear that the Muslim activist will have to serve a sentence that was meted out by the courts earlier.

Belkacem was arrested following the Molenbeek riots sparked by the arrest of a woman wearing a full veil. The wearing of this garment is in violation with Belgian law that does not allow people to disguise their appearance in public.

The Sharia4Belgium leader was detained after he issued a video on YouTube that was seen as an incitement to violence. On Tuesday a court was to decide whether Belkacem would have to remain in gaol because of these allegations, but the Justice Minister has clarified that he can be held for at least six months as a result of an earlier conviction.

In 2009 the Muslim activist injured several police officers during a demonstration. At the time he wasn't expected to serve his entire sentence, but this will now be required.

Belkacem's presence in gaol has sparked unrest among Antwerp prison guards. Prison guards are staging a number of stoppages as they are unhappy with pronouncements made by the activist's parents. Belkacem's parents said that he was being poorly treated. Prison guards deny that this is the case and say that he is being treated like any other inmate. The prison management is backing the prison guards.

Moelenbeek: Two Police Officers Stabbed by Jihadist from France

Two law enforcement representatives were stabbed by a maniac in Moelenbeek, in Beekkant underground station. The attacker is a 34-year-old man active in the Islamist milieu who, according to his own statements, committed his attack to protest against the Belgian government's policy towards Muslims. L'agresseur est un homme de 34 ans actif dans le milieu islamiste qui, selon ses propres dires, a commis son agression pour protester contre la politique du gouvernement belge à l'égard des musulmans.

Having arrived from Paris in Thalys, he was carrying documents containing extracts from the Koran as well as a press article referring to the burka-wearing woman who was stopped last Thursday. After having found out about the events that occurred in Moelenbeek in recent days, he took the underground towards the district. When the doors were opened, he attacked the two young police recruits from behind while telling "Holy War!". According to our sources, the man was clearly in Belgium to "kill a cop".

The two victims, a man and a woman in their 30s, are out of danger. The woman has a wound in the neck and in her lower back; the man was struck in the nape of the neck.

Attendees Beat Man to Death Outside Birmingham mosque

A MAN who suffered a serious head injury after being assaulted outside a Birmingham mosque has died in hospital.

The 21-year-old victim, who has not been named, was allegedly attacked in front of horrified worshipers in Small Heath on Friday.

He was discovered with a serious head injury near the Noor-ul-Uloom mosque, at the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswalds Road.

A family friend said he died yesterday afternoon at Heartlands Hospital.

He added: He was in a very bad way over the weekend and there was talk of switching off the life support machine on Sunday but he seemed to be improving.

The family are naturally devastated and making funeral arrangements.

One eyewitness to the alleged attack said: "It was just after Friday prayers so the mosque was packed with worshippers.

"There were women and kids stood outside watching all this and crying. You could hear the victim screaming out in pain."

A 15-year-old schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Birmingham Youth Court on Tuesday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was remanded in custody.

He appeared again yesterday for a bail hearing, which was refused. He was remanded into a young offenders institute until June 13.

Two other men arrested on Friday night aged 42 and 20 years old and also from Small Heath have both been released on police bail until a date in July.

A forensic post-mortem will be carried out today.

West Midlands Police are asking witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Detective Inspector Stuart Kidd said: "We are making a number of inquiries to find exactly what happened on Friday afternoon.

"We know many people were in the area and we urge them to come forward and assist us with our inquiry.

"Local officers are continuing to patrol the area to speak to local people and offer reassurance to the community."

Officials Tried to Suppress Information About Muslim Grooming and Murder Case

This is what happens with the ‘thought police’ enforcement of political correctness that’s enforced to safeguard multiculturalism. Normal thinking people act against common sense and reason, this young mother would still be breathing if these social workers had actually done their jobs.

An official report into the way care agencies dealt with a murdered girl concealed key information about adults suspected of grooming and using her for sex from the age of 11, The Times can reveal today.

Laura Wilson, 17, was repeatedly stabbed then thrown into a South Yorkshire canal in 2010, six years after concerns were raised that she was at risk of being sexually exploited by men.

Details kept secret when a serious case review was published last week can be reported today after a safeguarding board abandoned legal action against The Times. The board had redacted — blocked out with thick black lines — information identifying Laura as one of several girls in Rotherham who were suspected of falling victim to sexual abuse by “Asian men”.

Also kept hidden were details of care professionals’ involvement with Laura from the age of 11 to 15, including meetings that discussed concerns about child sexual exploitation. The board’s application for a High Court injunction to gag The Times was dropped after Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, accused the board of withholding “relevant and important material”.

The redactions, coupled with Rotherham’s attempt to suppress the report in the courts, will lend support to the impression that child sex exploitation is not being confronted robustly by care professionals and local government.

Laura, identified in the report as “Child S”, was murdered in Rotherham by Ashtiaq Asghar, 17. Ishaq Hussain, 21, a married man who made her pregnant a month after her 16th birthday, was found not guilty of murder.

The report, published by Rotherham’s safeguarding children board, found that 15 agencies had had dealings with Laura. It identified “numerous missed opportunities” to protect a vulnerable child who became “almost invisible” to some care professionals.

Redactions were made to 61 of the report’s 144 pages, ostensibly to protect “the privacy and welfare” of the dead girl’s baby. Hidden from view was the fact that Laura “was mentioned” during a 2009 police inquiry that led to the conviction of five British Pakistanis, aged from 20 to 30, for sex offences against three girls aged 13 to 16.

Though the published report said that when Laura was 10, a young girl with whom she was very closely associated “is thought to have become involved in sexual exploitation”, it concealed that this was “with particular reference to Asian men being involved”.

    Other redacted details include:
    · “At the centre of the Child S case is the issue of Child S’s potential involvement in sexual exploitation.”
    · Many of the indicators that a child is being groomed for sexual exploitation “were apparent in the case of Child S”.
    · Laura was referred to a specialist child sexual exploitation project three months after her 11th birthday.
    · Laura was “taken into a car with men who encouraged her to drink alcohol”.
    · When she was 13, “Child S and her friend were given alcohol by men at a local takeaway and were asked what they were going to give them in return”. Her mother said that “she had immediately notified the police”.
    · Her mother “was shocked when it looked as though Child S was involved with older men” and said that “she had tried to get the police and social care to do something about it”.
    · Her mother said that “Child S had always said that what [another girl] was doing was wrong and that she would never mess around with Asian men”.

The board’s claim that redactions were made to protect Laura’s relatives is weakened by the personal information about her family that it made public. Its published report disclosed that “from the age of two she experienced the emotional and physical stress of abuse within the family”. The board also chose to reveal that Laura shaved her baby’s head in keeping with Muslim tradition “and talked about bringing her up as a Muslim”.

In 2010 the Government ordered the publication of all serious case reviews. The Times has learnt that the Rotherham board tried to withhold the entire Laura Wilson report, a request rejected by the Department for Education. Mr Gove was told of differences between the review’s published and unredacted versions. He saw both last week and “made plain” to Alan Hazell, the board chairman, his desire for the report to be published “as fully as possible”.

A government spokesman said: “This girl was clearly let down at all stages of her short life. We need greater transparency if we are to give the public greater confidence in the child protection system. Those objectives are undermined if published reports are inappropriately edited.”

Mr Hazell said last week that “at no stage did we have any evidence that Laura was involved in child sexual exploitation”. He suggested that her death was the story of “a boyfriend from a relationship who callously murdered his girlfriend”. Yet the review’s executive summary said: “There is evidence from [Laura’s] behaviour that she did get involved in sexual exploitation.”

The report’s independent author, Pat Cantrill, suggested the absence of more definitive proof that Laura was being used for sex by adults may have been due to failings by care agencies: “Laura obviously had friendships with girls . . . involved in sexual exploitation. The fact that she was vulnerable and was involved in that world should have been enough for people to do more preventative work with her. That didn’t happen.”

In her report, Professor Cantrill said that care professionals in Rotherham needed “improved knowledge of sexual exploitation and grooming, including a better understanding of perpetrators”.

Mr Hazell said he rejected “in the strongest possible terms any suggestion that information was redacted from the published report for any reason other than to protect the interests of Laura’s daughter, immediate family and other third parties”.

Man held after 2kg of heroin found in wedding dress

A man is in custody after customs officers found 2kg of heroin hidden in a wedding dress, the Border Force said today.

Officials discovered the package, with an estimated street value of £90,000, in a suitcase at Heathrow airport.

It had been sewn into the hems of a traditional Pakistani bridal gown and was found on Sunday June 3, the force said.

Mohammed Khalil Bhatti, 33, from Pakistan, was arrested and charged with importation offences. He had earlier arrived at Terminal 3 on a flight from Karachi.

Bhatti appeared before magistrates in Uxbridge, west London, on Tuesday where he was remanded in custody to appear again on July 3.

A 30-year-old man from the Luton area was also arrested and later bailed pending further inquiries.

Damon Jackman, Border Force Heathrow deputy director, said: "This seizure was highly unusual and shows the lengths smugglers will go to.

"But Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep heroin and other banned substances out of the UK.

"Drug trafficking is a serious offence and those convicted face long prison sentences."

Plans to close university Islamic centre

Student Union members say they're concerned about plans by the University of East Anglia to demolish the Islamic Centre.

Planning permission for the temporary building expires in August and there are currently no plans to replace the facility. Instead the Chaplaincy building will be used as a multi-faith facility.

The Islamic Community plans to host a demonstration on campus on Friday afternoon to oppose the demolition.

In a statement, the University of East Anglia said:

The University of East Anglia is committed to meeting the needs of the diverse range of groups within the campus community. UEA has a well-established Islamic Society and a Muslim Imam who plays a full part in our multi-faith chaplaincy team.

We will continue to offer Muslim prayer facilities on campus for both Friday prayer and individual worship. The existing facility is a temporary building for which planning permission expires this September. The university is adapting the existing multi-faith Chaplaincy building to meet the needs of our Muslim students. They will also continue to be able to book rooms for social activities on campus.

Our Chaplaincy staff are very much looking forward to welcoming more of our Muslim community into our multi-faith facility and believe that this will be a positive step in further enhancing mutual understanding and integration across our diverse community.

Charity Commission launches extremism investigation into Leyton Mosque

The Charity Commission has launched an investigation into allegations that one of London’s major mosques has been taken over by extremists after an imam who tried to preach that evolution was compatible with Islam was forced to resign.

Leyton Mosque, which overlooks the Olympic Park, has been at the centre of a bitter dispute between rival factions for more than a year. Last month Dr Usama Hasan, a prominent theologian and one of the mosque’s imams, resigned following a string of disruptions by extremists who were angered by his lectures on Darwinism and comparatively progressive interpretation of Islamic teaching.

At the height of the dispute anonymous leaflets were distributed calling for his execution and campaigns by ultra-conservatives were launched against his plans to allow female speakers to talk in front of mixed sex audiences.

Under a deal that was supposed to bring some form of closure to the dispute Dr Hasan and some of his detractors resigned from the board of trustees. But much of the power within the mosque still rests in the hands of Dr Hasan’s critics.

Now it has emerged that the Charity Commission is investigating the mosque over concerns that it has links to extremism. PSE KEEP According to the Liberal Conspiracy website, a letter has been sent to the mosque’s new trustees stating that the commission was opening a statutory inquiry after “concerns were raised with us about alleged links to extremism.”

A commission spokeswoman today confirmed the investigation adding: “We cannot comment further on the case until our investigation is complete. It is our usual practice to publish a report following the conclusion of a statutory inquiry.“

Calls and emails to the mosque today went unanswered.

Speaking to The Independent last night, Dr Hasan said: “I am upset that my beloved mosque, where I led prayers for over 25 years, is being formally investigated by the Charity Commission for links to extremism, since I have challenged extremism and tried to defend the mosque against it for many years.

However, I hope that the investigation will help us, the mosque congregation and its trustees that represent us, to move forward and ensure that divisive, extremist viewpoints are not promoted and that the beauty of the balanced message of Islam shines through.”

Historically Islamic authorities have had little problem with the concept of evolution, backing Darwinism as being entirely compatible with God’s design.

Many centuries before the Origin of Species was written, Islamic scholars compiled sizeable tracts on botany and how animals survived and thrived within their environment. But as with Christianity, conservative and reactionary elements within Islam have begun in more recent decades to promote Creationism with increasing zealotry.

Muslim Outrage, Intimidation, and Blackmail

In 1997 a huge Muslim outcry ensued that forced Nike to "recall 800,000 shoes because the Muslims claimed the company's 'Air' logo resembled the Arabic script for Allah." Mind you, the decoration was not the name for Allah. As a result of this bogus allegation, Nike would build "three playgrounds for Islamic communities in the United States" as part of the repentance package.

Instead of decrying this false claim of religious insensitivity, the New York Times reported that Nike:

committed a legendary error when it released a pair of athletic shoes in 1996 with a logo on the sole that some Muslims believed resembled the Arabic lettering for Allah. According to John Goodman, a Muslim convert and Ogilvy & Mather's regional director for South and Southeast Asia, '[g]iven that Muslims consider the feet unclean, producing shoes with the name of God on the soles of the feet is not a good idea...they recalled 800,000 pairs of shoes globally.'

Describing the Nike episode as a 'wake-up call' for companies, Goodman said it had also been a turning point for Muslim advocates, who realized that 'if they make a noise, companies would listen and change, that they had economic and social influence.'

Well, these Muslim advocates certainly have exercised their influence at these alleged offenses. In fact, CAIR's executive director, Nihad Awad, arrogantly responded that, had a settlement not been reached, his organization would have called for a global boycott of Nike products. CAIR's spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper, crowed about the settlement: "We see it as a victory. It shows that the Muslim community is growing and becoming stronger in the United States. It shows that our voices are being heard."

In 1998 "Unilever scrapped a new logo it had begun to use on Walls ice creams in the Middle East -- again after Muslims said the intertwining red and yellow hearts looked like 'Allah' in Arabic when viewed upside down and backwards."

Four years before the Unilever episode, in 1994, Karl Lagerfeld designed a dress incorporating a pattern he had copied from Arabic lettering on India's Taj Mahal monument. This resulted in death threats to the German model Claudia Schiffer for wearing the dress.

As a result, Lagerfeld burned the garments and destroyed photographs and negatives of the dress!

One wonders what the insulted Muslims would say about the random playfulness of nature, clouds and trees which also resemble the Allah script.

But I digress.

In 2004 in Denmark, sandals that bore a design that looked like the word "Allah" in Arabic resulted in a Muslim organization suing a Danish supermarket. Fortunately, the supermarket spokesperson refused to remove the sandals from the shelves stating that seven Arabic-speaking employees stated that the design did not refer to Allah's name.

In 2005 Burger King in the UK withdrew its ice cream cones after the lid of the dessert offended a Muslim who claimed the design was sacrilegious. As a result the man threatened jihad via a boycott of Burger King. Consequently, the chain had to spend thousands of pounds to redesign the lid and had to comply with the Muslim Council of Britain which stated that they "commended the sensitive and prompt action that Burger King [had] taken."

The latest assault occurred on May 27, 2012 and is targeted against a McDonald's Toy. According to the Saudis, the toy "abused the Prophet Muhammad by placing his name at the base of a toy that is being distributed as part of the Happy Meal, a toy which steps on the name 'Muhammad.'" In response, the Saudi McDonald's has withdrawn the toy from all its restaurants, "in order to safeguard against any accusations or misunderstandings."

Indeed, this should be a turning point! It should make Western commercial interests hunker down and refuse to give into the blackmail, expensive redesign implementation, self-censoring loss of creativity, and death threats - all byproducts of these phony pseudo-angry outbursts by far too many Muslims. These preposterous fabrications demand that our righteous indignation call for the end of Islamic triumphalism. It is time for our voices to be heard. We need to recall that "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin, Speech to the Pennsylvania Assembly, November 11, 1755)

At what point will the West politely say, 'No, we will not be intimidated by your rage. We will not be coerced. We will not be frightened into dhimmitude by people who cannot tell the difference between a design and the name of their prophet? When will the West see through yet another excuse to make us bow to these Islamic extremists who will "be outraged by anything short of our adopting Sharia law?"

The view from Londonistan, Absurd Britannia, Eurabia

by Enza Ferreri

Raymond Ibrahim, a scholar of Arab and Islam history born in the USA of Egyptian Coptic parents, often writes about the condition of Christians in Muslim-majority countries, where they are subjugated and oppressed, even when they are a sizeable minority in places like Egypt, Syria and, before the “ethnic cleansing”, Iraq.

This is the complementary view, the one from historically Christian Western Europe, where Muslims are still (although not for long) a small minority, smaller than the Christians in the aforementioned countries. Even in these entirely different situations Muslims, aided by the Left and coward governments, are still acting like masters, thinking that everything is due to them and trying to impose their ideology on everybody else.

I came to live in London from Italy in 1984, and the changes I witnessed since are earth-shattering.
When I first arrived here, the word “halal” was unknown to everybody except the people involved in animal welfare, who knew that the Islamic method of slaughter was bad news indeed for the animals. Now you only have to take a 30-minute drive around London (any part) and you’ll see dozens of Halal signs in shops and restaurants. In the area where I live in West London, which is by no means a Muslim ghetto because many non-Muslim whites and blacks reside here, in the street you see women whose attire would make the strictest Taliban happy; or at least you think they are women, since all you can see is a walking robe with no eyes.

The following are some among the myriad examples of Muslim intolerance and lack of integration, stealth jihad and creeping sharia in the United Kingdom.
A few years ago a Muslim policeman refused to wear his uniform due to the presence of a cross on it.
The typical phenomenon of Muslim men grooming white young girls, for years denounced only by right-wing groups who as a result were accused of racism and Islamophobia, turned out to be real and now the mainstream media have started covering it.

There have been instances of Muslim girls rejecting their school uniform and demanding to wear Muslim clothing, sometimes even suing the school using the European Convention on Human Rights and winning the case.

Muslim bus and taxi drivers have not allowed on their vehicle blind people with their “unclean” guide dogs and Muslim passengers have objected to them.

British legislation, bending over backwards to accommodate Sharia, has permitted conflicts and contradictions with long-established jurisprudence. Polygamy, despite being forbidden by British law, is now de facto part of it due to a change in the inheritance law which now lets multiple wives inherit from their husband.

Similarly, a loophole created by the previous Labour government allows Muslims to take a property mortgage without paying interest, which also makes it cheaper for them and has now been exploited by non-Muslims who discovered it, causing a minor uproar.

In the UK the police are afraid of Muslims. There have been cases caught on video of Muslim demonstrators pelting with sticks and traffic cones and taunting with shouts of "kuffar" (Islamic  epithet for infidels) the police, who retreated in front of them.

And then there is the classical problem of halal meat, which is being served in British schools, hospitals and other institutions to both followers and non followers of Islam, and now brought to international attention by Sarkozy’s declared intention to change this situation in France, which is in the same predicament as the UK but a bit less dhimmi. In addition, meat of animals slaughtered with the halal method but still discarded for Muslim consumption because considered “haram” (forbidden) in some other way is being sold to unaware non-Muslims. To their credit British ministers, though, following Sarkozy’s example, have now said that they will soon change the law.

Practically, according to a familiar pattern of progression, Muslim populations in countries where they are a tiny minority or in a weak position act differently from their counterparts in countries where they are stronger or more numerous. Therefore Europe, with its policy of appeasement and its Muslim communities’ exponential growth, can expect in a few decades’ time to see the imposition of Sharia law and other effects of Islamic supremacy, unless something (hopefully, Europeans waking up from their sleep) intervenes to alter the current demographic, social and political trend.

Western Europe’s general readiness, in recent years, to discard Christianity may reveal itself a very dangerous experiment indeed for many different reasons, one of which is the fact of depriving itself of a solid bulwark against Islam, stronger than atheism, secularism or liberalism both in the American and traditional European sense.

It is no coincidence that perhaps the country that most has conceded to Muslims and most has renounced for the sake of Islam, the United Kingdom, possibly the only country in the free world where the media, with the exception of a Welsh student rag and a Welsh-language church newspaper, did not reprint the notorious Mohammed cartoons for fear of offending Muslim sensitivities, is also the country which is proudest of its secularism, the only country I know of where before his visit the Pope was threatened with arrest by various fanatical atheists, homosexual activists and assorted militant hotheads.

Private Muslim schools told to promote British values

Private Islamic schools face being required to promote “British values” as part of a new Government drive to combat extremism, it emerged today.

For the first time, they will be forced to meet new rules introduced to ensure schools respect the criminal and civil law, present political issues in a balanced way and promote tolerance of other faiths.

The change – applying to all independent schools in England – comes amid concerns that the curriculum in some schools may encourage the development of radical beliefs.

In a report, the Department for Education said reports from a range of sources suggest that “extremism may be more of a problem within some independent schools rather than state-funded schools”.

Although the duty applies to all fee-paying schools, particular concerns have been raised in the past over more than 100 private Muslim schools.

A report by the think-tank Civitas in 2009 found anti-Western views promoted on some school webites. A separate study by Ofsted, the education watchdog, revealed that one-in-five independent faith schools were failing to teach children about other religions.

The DfE is now proposing changes to official regulations for independent schools in England that toughen up requirements surrounding the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils.

A consultation document into the plans suggests that schools should “enable pupils to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law”, while providing children with a “broad general knowledge of public institutions and services in England”.

Schools will also be expected to "preclude the promotion of partisan political views" and ensure that children “respect fundamental British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”.

The new regulations represent a tightening of existing rules, which merely require independent schools to respect "the law", encourage pupils to contribute towards community life and tolerate different cultures. It will be used by Ofsted and other official watchdogs during inspections of independent schools.

The report – which is open to consultation until Tuesday – said the changes would “help ensure that extremism, intolerance and teaching that undermines democracy and the rule of law are challenged within independent schools”.

“Inspectorates will in future be better able to identify and report on extremism if these changes are made,” it added.

A Department for Education spokeswoman said: “We are consulting on whether we need to add additional requirements for independent schools to bring them into line with maintained schools.

“These requirements include the promoting of fundamental British values, respecting the civil and criminal law and presenting political issues in a balanced way.”
