TWO men have been jailed for a total of 10 years after ripping off vulnerable migrants in an immigration fraud uncovered by The Herald.
Law graduate Yousaf Amin was sentenced to six years while his school friend and accomplice Sajad Khan was imprisoned for four years.
Both men admitted fraud last week after their arrest for orchestrating the scam, which they ran from rented offices in Glasgow, Leeds and Luton.

Paedophile who went on run is jailed for a year
PAEDOPHILE Richard(mohamud) Fruin, who went on the run around the world for seven years, has been jailed for a year.But because Fruin, 35, has spent the past six months in custody on remand he will be freed on parole within days.
Gloucester Crown Court heard that Fruin (pictured) was bailed after his arrest in 2005 but then flew to West Africa before travelling to other countries including Malaysia.
Child porn images found on his computers included some of a 14-year-old boy from Stroud, whom Fruin had been associating with.
Fruin, formerly of Stroud but now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to 15 offences of making indecent images of children between January and November 2005.
As well as the 12-month jail term, Fruin must sign the sex offender register for ten years.

Birmingham drug smuggling gang member jailed for 16 years

Three smugglers have been jailed for a total of 24 years after one of the biggest ever seizures of drugs at a busy UK port.
The men from Birmingham attempted to import £12 million-worth of heroin which would have brought misery to the city’s streets.
Nadeem Aslam, 32, of Trafalgar Road, Moseley, who was involved in a plot to sneak the huge consignment into Birmingham under the floorboards of a lorry has been jailed for 16 years.
Mohammed Khan, 35, from Shawsdale Road, Buckland End, and Manjinder Thethy, 34, from George Street, Handsworth, had been earlier jailed for four years each after admitting attempting to import a class A drug.
Aslam had been found guilty in May of conspiracy to import the drug by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court.
An earlier trial had to be aborted after a female juror, who had allegedly been drinking, fell asleep.
She was subsequently fined £250 for contempt.

Carwash kingpin jailed over plan to flood North-East with heroin
THE mastermind behind a plan to flood the North-East with heroin and cannabis was last night starting a sixteen-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
Majid Khan used his car wash business in Middlesbrough as a front for a multi-million pound plot to mass distribute drugs.
Incredibly, one of the men behind the nationwide scheme was already serving a 14 year sentence in jail.
Teesside Crown Court heard how that didn't prevent convicted drugs baron Imran Bashir helping to orchestrate the team.
Bashir brazenly discussed the evil plan during a prison visit when his wife used her mobile phone to host a conference call with Khan.
Although both men spoke perfectly good English, their conversations recorded by prison bosses were in mostly in Urdu and contained codes.
Although police recovered drugs worth £300,000 the court heard how the trade was worth millions.

14 year old girl put in cell for asking to change teaching group

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly making racist remarks at a school in Greater Manchester.Codie

with five Asian pupils – only one of whom spoke English.
The 14-year-old was questioned in a juvenile unit before being released without charge.

Child sex abuse 'continuing' in Rochdale despite high profile prosecution of nine muslim men for exploiting young girls
Young teenagers continue to be sexually exploited in Rochdale – months after the high profile prosecution of nine muslim men for the exploitation of young girls caused national outrage, a parliamentary committee has been told.
Police and social services failed to protect more than a 100 suspected child victims of sexual exploitation in Rochdale between 2005 and 2011, despite a specialist sexual health team “telling everybody” in children’s services, the Home Affairs Select Committee has been told.
The evidence was given by social worker Sara Rowbotham, team leader of Rochdale’s Crisis Intervention Team and sexual health improvement specialist, as part of the committee’s inquiry into localised children grooming trigged by the Rochdale scandal.
Ms Rowbotham said the failures in Rochdale went back much further than previously reported - to at least to 2004.
She said the failures were down to “the attitudes towards teenagers… these vulnerable young people did not have a voice… they were treated awfully by protective services.”
Committee chairman Keith Vaz said he was “very concerned” to hear that Ms Rowbotham’s team had been cut by half over the past three years. “If there are any repercussions as a result of coming to the committee, please tell us immediately,” said Mr Vaz.
The committee also heard evidence from the former chief executive of Rochdale Council, who insisted that neither he nor the head of children services were aware of any child sexual exploitation until 2010. He first learned about the scandal was when the nine men were arrested in 2010, Roger Ellis told an incredulous committee, but still did not commission any kind of internal inquiry.
Mr Ellis said: “As a chief executive I feel responsible for everything that goes on in my local authority, whether I know about it or not. I feel a deep sense of responsibility, regret and embarrassment but I do not feel personally culpable because…I do not think I could have done anything differently with the information I had.”
He would not disclose his final pay-out from the council this year because of a gagging clause, and when asked if he would consider returning it, he said: “No because I don’t feel any sense of personal responsibility.”

Police launch sex abuse investigation into two East Lancashire children's homes
A POLICE probe has been launched into claims that gangs of men raped and abused vulnerable under-age girls in care.
Details of the alleged abuse have emerged after a mum in her 20s claimed she was a victim while living in two care homes in East Lancashire as a teenager.
She told police she was groomed and molested in return for alcohol, cigarettes and drugs while away from the homes.
The allegations refer to gangs of Asian men who it is claimed hung around the homes she lived in while under the care of Lancashire County Council.
The victim, who still lives in East Lancashire, also told officers she was abused while being looked after at a home in Merseyside.
She said care workers at that home failed to put a stop to the goings on, echoing the findings of a report into a sex ring in Rochdale, which highlighted ‘missed opportunities’ to halt abuse.
The victim, now a mother-of-four, spoke out to make others aware of the plight of children in the care system.
She is telling her harrowing story in small sections to specially trained officers from Lancashire police’s child exploitation team, Engage.
It comes as child sex abuse cases hit the headlines following hundreds of allegations that broadcaster Jimmy Saville has assaulted young girls.
Statistics show 645 child groomers were identified by Lancashire police between April 2011 and March 2012. Around 96 per cent of those groomers were male and three per cent were female.
In total 77 per cent of groomers were classed as white British, nine per cent were Asian Pakistani and three per cent were Asian Indian.
It is understood, that detectives are now looking into the possibility there may have been other victims.
At just 14-years-old the victim claims she was drugged and gang raped in a field while living at the care home in Merseyside.
She claims she was being denied medical help despite being taken to a police station naked and covered in blood and bruises.
DI Claire Holbrook, head of Lancashire Constabulary’s public protection unit, who is leading the investigation confirmed the allegations centred on East Lancashire.
She said: “Lancashire Constabulary has been made aware of a number of historic allegations and we are in the early stages of investigating those complaints.
“We would always encourage victims to feel confident enough to speak out about abuse they may have suffered and would like to reassure people that we take cases such as this very seriously and they will be investigated with the utmost sensitivity."
A Lancashire County Council spokesman said: “Police are investigating these allegations. We are unable to comment further.”
In May this year, members of a sex grooming gang in Rochdale were jailed to a total of 77 years.
They were jailed after being convicted of a racket where under-age victims were groomed for sex and trafficked from the Rochdale area to several address in East Lancashire and beyond.
Girls as young as 13 were first plied with fast food, drink and drugs before they were ‘handed around’ for sex by the men, eight of whom were from Pakistan and one from Afghanistan.

Palestinian Terrorists on the Payroll
British taxpayers are helping to pay the salaries of jailed bomb makers.
Why do politicians always resign over the minor things, while getting away with the major ones? Swear at a policeman, for instance, and after a month of harrying from the media and your political opponents, you will finally stand down.
Waste millions of pounds on a taxpayer-funded self-aggrandizement scheme, on the other hand, and you will not only get away with it, but be praised. Such is the case with Andrew Mitchell, former minister at the U.K. Department for International Development (DfID) and now—after an angry altercation with a Downing Street policeman—former chief whip.
Swearing at a policeman is bad. But far worse is what Mr. Mitchell presided over at DfID and what his former colleague Alan Duncan—who still has his job—allows to go on, even now.A report by Palestinian Media Watch recently revealed that British taxpayers have been paying salaries to terrorists. It revealed that £3 million every month is paid by the Palestinian Authority (PA) in salaries to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. The salaries come from the PA's general budget. That "general budget" is kindly provided by the U.K., among other EU countries.
Many British taxpayers, struggling to pay their family's way through a recession, might rightly wonder why their money is going to pay as much as £2,000 a month to people serving the longest sentences—those who have targeted Israeli buses and other civilian targets with suicide bombers, for instance. That is higher than the average wage in nearly all of Britain. You might be forgiven for wondering, if you were a struggling teaching assistant in the North of England, why failing to tick "suicide bomber" on your careers form should have left you so much worse off than a terrorist in the Middle East.
Fortunately such people can be consoled
by the limitless complacency of the international development minister.
For after the facts about the DfID budget were revealed, Alan Duncan
rejected them in the following tones: "If these claims were true, this
would be a matter of very serious concern for me and the Department." "However," Mr. Duncan said, "I am pleased to reassure you that we have investigated the matter fully and can confirm that the allegations in Palestinian Media Watch's report are both inaccurate and misleading." The payments were not in fact salaries, he claimed, but rather "social assistance programs to provide welfare payments."
How nice it must be to be Mr. Duncan. So clever, so satisfied and so wrong. For this week it became clear quite how little Mr. Duncan knows or cares about the uses to which he puts our taxpayers' money.
It is possible of course that on this occasion he does not care. When it comes to the Middle East, Mr. Duncan's views are well-known. As well as being fond of some of the ropier regimes in the region, he has expressed a long-held disdain for the region's only truly free state.
Just a year ago Mr. Duncan dragged his department into a row when its website posted a video of him divesting himself of some of his franker opinions. Standing beside Israel's security fence—built, successfully, to stop a spate of suicide bombing—Mr. Duncan described the fence as a "land grab," claimed that Israelis deliberately stole water from Palestinians, and said that the land in question did not belong to the Jewish state. The latter point was spat out by Mr. Duncan with such ferocity—the video has since been removed—as to make it perfectly clear this was something Mr. Duncan felt, as well as thought.
But perhaps one should be more generous and assume that Mr. Duncan simply had not known what he was talking about on the subject of taxpayers' money or the security fence. DfID spends around £86 million each year in the Palestinian areas. Around £30 million of this goes to the PA's general budget, from which the terrorists receive their salaries. And PMW's latest report provides exactly the evidence Mr. Duncan said did not exist. The PA itself refers to the payments to prisoners not as "welfare payments," as Mr. Duncan would have it, but as a "monthly salary."
In addition, there is no possibility that the salary reflects the prisoner's family's welfare needs because the payments bear no relation to either the prisoner's marital status or social welfare situation. What they do relate to is the length of the sentence, with those convicted and sentenced for the worst crimes receiving the highest payments.
So there the situation lies. If there is one thing we can be fairly sure of, it is that Mr. Duncan will suffer little or no political inconvenience either for the liberality with which he distorts the facts or that with which he distributes taxpayers' money. A slip of the tongue might lead to disgrace. A slip of the pen does not, even if it occurs over the nation's checkbook.
The thinking behind the increase in Britain's overseas aid budget during a time of recession seemed to be something like this: that the developing world would learn to love Britain if we gave them more money. Unlike that awful old-fashioned hard power (itself going through debilitating cuts) this soft power seemed likely to actually enhance Britain's standing in the world.
There are plenty of reasons to doubt that. But what a curious situation we then find ourselves in. For at the exact same time as Britain is drawing down its defense spending, and as the government is eviscerating the armed forces it still relies on, it is increasing the spending on salaries for terrorists and others who attack our allies.
I suppose we shall have to wait for Mr. Duncan to have a petulant run-in with a policeman before his own career suffers in any way.

Council chiefs to be quizzed by MPs over child sex gangs
The current and former chief executive of a Yorkshire council are
expected to be called before the Home Affairs Select Committee following
claims of widespread child exploitation with gangs of Asian men
grooming under-age white girls for sex.
An investigation last month claimed a confidential
2010 report by the Police Intelligence Bureau detailed “a significant
problem with networks of Asian males exploiting young white females,
particularly in Rotherham and Sheffield”, with officers reluctant to
tackle the issue due to fear of cultural sensitivities.
Earlier this month, South Yorkshire Police chief constable David Crompton and detective chief inspector Philip Eldridge were repeatedly censured by the Home Affairs Select Committee about child sex abuse in Rotherham.
In a fiery session held immediately after the questioning of the forces’s response to the Hillsborough disaster, MPs heard evidence of a 22-year-old man going unpunished after being found in a car with a 12-year-old girl, a bottle of vodka and indecent images of her on his mobile phone.
Committee members also heard evidence of three unconvicted members of one family in Rotherham being linked to the abuse of 61 girls.
Now chairman Keith Vaz has revealed on Twitter that former Rotherham Council chief executive Mike Cuff, and current chief executive Martin Kimber, will shortly be called to give evidence before the committee.
A Rotherham Council spokesman said yesterday: “We are aware of Mr Vaz’s comments on Twitter but as yet we have not received a request to attend a select committee hearing.
“We will, of course be happy to assist Mr Vaz and his committee with their enquiries into this very important issue so we can outline the work which is being done in Rotherham to help tackle sexual exploitation.”
Senior South Yorkshire officers have said they are “frustrated” by reports police and council officers turned a “blind-eye” to the problem and said the ethnic origin of suspects has not been a factor at all in deciding to press charges.

One in four British babies are now children of immigrants
Almost a quarter of babies born in the UK are children of immigrants, data shows.
There were 808,000 births in the UK last year, of which 196,000 were children born to non-UK born women - or 24 per cent.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows there has been a
steady increase in the number of children born to mothers who were born
abroad since 2001, when the figure stood at 15.3 per cent

Polish women who live in the UK gave birth to around 23,000 children last
year.
Women from Pakistan had 19,200 babies in the same period and Indian women gave
birth to 15,500 children.
Four in 10 children born to immigrant mothers were born in London. Half were
born in other parts of England, and one in 10 were born in Wales, Scotland
and Northern Ireland combined.
The ONS said fertility rates for non-UK born women are higher than those born
in the UK. The total fertility rate for women born in the UK is 1.89
children each, while for those born outside the UK the figure is 2.28.
The figures show that in 2007, 14 per cent of women living in the UK aged 15 to 44 had been born outside the UK. This rose to 18 per cent last year.
Recent analysis suggested hundreds of thousands more female immigrants arrived in Britain over the previous decade than has previously been thought and are thought to be behind a mini baby boom.
It showed that a previous attempt to forecast immigration figures underestimated the number of females coming to live in the country by 361,000 and overestimated the number of males by 94,000, when compared with census data.

The official data from 2001-2010, released in July, showed net migration to England and Wales increased the population by more than 2.1 million.
Figures also show that more than a quarter of all births are to non-UK born women, boosting the number of children aged 0-8 years by nearly 300,000 since the last census in 2001.
Pakistani women have been overtaken by those from Poland as the single largest group of foreign-born mothers in 2010 and 2011, making up more than one in 10 births within this group.
The analysis comes with immigration continuing to be a part of the political agenda, after David Cameron announced a review into the freedom of EU citizens to live and work in the UK - despite any limitation on this being barred under EU agreements - amid job fears for young Britons.
Economists and population analysts point out the positive impact, because UK fertility rates are too low to maintain the population at the same level, which is likely to see the burden of paying for the nation's elderly falling on fewer shoulders.
Data released by the ONS in August showed women born in the UK were having an average of 1.9 children each, below the rate of 2.1 that is thought necessary to keep a population level. But when non-UK born women are included, the rate goes up to around 2.0.
Gordon Sharp, head of the Continuous Mortality Investigations unit, an actuarial body, said it meant that the cost of supporting the nation's elderly in 30 years would be spread among more workers.
He said: "It means the dependency ratio is not as severe as it might otherwise be."
But he noted that the rise in births would result in some higher costs in the short term including healthcare and education.

Police probe three more 'major' child sex grooming rings
Detectives are investigating another three alleged major child sex grooming rings in Greater Manchester and have doubled the number of officers working on the inquiries to 400.
The probe has widened significantly since nine Asian men were convicted in May
of the systematic grooming and sexual abuse of white girls in Heywood and
Rochdale.
Greater Manchester Police announced last night that a further nine men have
been charged in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of one teenage girl
in Rochdale between 2008 and 2009.
Officers in the region are also investigating three other groups of men
alleged to have sexually abused a series of teenage girls, as well as
“numerous” smaller cases involving one alleged victim who says she was
abused by one or two men, the Manchester Evening News reported.
The force declined to say precisely how many cases it is investigating but it
confirmed that there are now about 400 officers working full-time on child
sexual exploitation and other sexual offences.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle, head of Greater Manchester Police’s
public protection division, said: “There are currently a number of child
sexual exploitation investigations under way across the force, which range
from individuals up to large groups of offenders that are loosely connected
to each other.
“Some of these investigations have arisen from historic allegations and some are based on new complaints.

“We now have a much better understanding of the signs to look for, plus there
have been significant improvements in the sharing of information between
agencies. Also, the widespread publicity surrounding recent cases has

“Child sexual exploitation is now one of the force’s top priorities and we are absolutely committed to ensuring it gets the resources that it deserves.”
Meanwhile, Keir Starmer, QC, the Director of Public Prosecutions, has said that a generation of girls had been betrayed by the justice system's flawed approach to sexual exploitation.
He has ordered a major overhaul of the Crown Prosecution Service's response to sex grooming, with the aim of increasing the number of convictions.
Mr Starmer admitted that a failure to understand the nature of abuse by police, prosecutors and the courts meant that men who groomed teenagers for sex had escaped justice for decades.
"In a number of cases presented to us, particularly in cases involving groups, there's clearly an issue of ethnicity that has to be understood and addressed. As prosecutors we shouldn't shy away from that,” he told The Times.
"But if we're honest it's the approach to the victims, the credibility issue, that causes these cases not to be prosecuted in the past. There was a lack of understanding."

“I was absolutely dumbfounded": Soldier sacked 72 HOURS before he gets his full pension
Sergeant Lee Nolan was so furious about losing out on at least £100,000 that he sent his six military medals to David Cameron
AN Iraq war veteran was made redundant just 72 HOURS before qualifying for a full Army pension.
Sergeant Lee Nolan will lose out on at least £100,000 after he became one of 20,000 soldiers who are being axed in savage military cuts.
He was so furious at losing his job, his Army home and financial security after risking his life for his country that he sent his six military medals to David Cameron.
And in a moving letter to the PM he wrote: “The events of the past 12 months have turned my life on its head and sullied my near-18 years of loyal and exemplary service to my country.
“The medals I have enclosed would only serve to remind me of the shocking way I have been treated.”
Sgt Nolan is one of at least 80 soldiers, sailors and aircrew made redundant when they are less than a year away from qualifying.
There have been claims that they are being intentionally selected to save the MoD millions of pounds.
And the axed troops’ plight has sparked calls for a review, with an online petition demanding that the issue is debated in Parliament.
Sgt Nolan, 43 – who did tours of duty in Bosnia, Iraq and Kosovo – joined the Army when he was 24.
He was made compulsorily redundant from his job as a medical technician in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers last September, leaving on August 31 after a 12-month notice period.
Depending on their rank, forces personnel aged over 40 need 16 or 18 years’ service to earn a pension and lump sum when they leave.
When Sgt Nolan’s redundancy was worked out he was stunned to find his service was 17 years and 362 days... just three days short.
He said: “I was absolutely dumbfounded. In one moment I lost my livelihood, my way of life and the pension I’d relied on to start again.”
He was given a redundancy payout of £93,000 and when he reaches 60 he will get a £5,000-a-year pension. If he had been made redundant three days later he would have received £188,500, made up of a £76,000 lump sum plus £6,250 a year until he was 60. After he complained, he made a heartbreaking discovery.
He said: “They discovered there had been an administrative error. They had only wanted 20 redundancies. I was the 21st.”
Appalled, Sgt Nolan, who has been forced to move in with relatives in Manchester, sent his letter and medals to Mr Cameron.
He received a letter dated a month ago thanking him and promising a reply but has not heard any more. He has now joined the campaign group Pensions Justice for Troops, which says redundant personnel will miss out on at least £40million between them.
Spokeswoman Jayne Bullock said: “People who leave the Armed Forces lose a whole way of life and need financial security as they adapt, retrain and start over again.”
A Number 10 spokesman declined to comment on the letter. The MoD said nearness to qualifying for a pension was not a factor in being selected for redundancy.

Setback for controversial Blackburn prayer room bid
CONTROVERSIAL proposals for a Muslim prayer room in Blackburn which
sparked hundreds of objections and a council standards inquiry have been
put back to square one.
Planning permission to transform the car park of the former Beardwood Garden Centre into an Islamic religious centre granted last year has now been declared invalid.
This means that supporters will have to start the whole process of applying for borough council approval again.
Last year the plans were recommended for refusal by officers, but councillors voted 10 to five to grant permission creating a storm of complaints.
Blackburn with Darwen Council Standards Committee launched an investigation into the handling of the application. That inquiry has yet to report. Last night’s planning and highways committee will be told that because of irregularities over the ownership of land needed for the prayer room, the decision has no legal force.
A report said: “Members of the committee are advised that the planning application has been made invalid and has been withdrawn.”
Tory spokesman Alan Cottam welcomed the news: “I still think this prayer room would be in the wrong place.”

France: Muslim Tae-Kwon-Do Champions Forced Underage Girls into Prostitution
Three practitioners of tae-kwon-do, boarders at the National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance (Insep), are among seven people being questioned this week in relation to a vast affair involving the pimping of minors in the Rhône-Alpes region, according to the police.Source: Sudouest.fr
Those involved are Amine Manai, European under-21 champion in 2010 and French champion below 68 kg, who was jailed, his brother Adam Manai, 3rd in the European Junior Championship in 2009, and Moussa Cissé, vice-champion of Europe below 58 kg, it has been learned from a source close to the investigation.
The suspects are accused of having forced into work young girls, aged from 14 to 17, and placed them in a hostel in Saint-Egrève (Isère), near Grenoble.
The incidents took place mainly in Isère, Savoie and in Haute-Savoie.
