Also added to the union’s Lent term line-up is Alan Rusbridger, the editor of the Guardian newspaper since 1995, who started his career at the News.

Mme Le Pen will address the chamber on topics including the future of the European Union and French politics while Mr Rusbridger will address the chamber on the future of the press.

A spokesman for the Cambridge Union Society said they welcomed the opportunity to “discuss, debate and challenge” Mme Le Pen.
