Manchester 'bomb scare': Police evacuate parts of city centre after suspect package found

Hundreds of workers have been evacuated and parts of Manchester city centre have been closed after a suspect package was found near a hotel.

Army bomb disposal experts have been called to Portland Street following the discovery of a bag understood to have been left at the back of the Mecure Manchester Piccadilly hotel.

Officers were called to New York Street at 7.35am to reports of a suspicious package having been left near to the hotel.

A 100m cordon has been put in place and a number of roads are shut while the incident is dealt with.
