Husband handed suspended jail sentence after attacking wife

A 28 YEAR-old Dudley security guard who attacked his wife has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Handing Rafaqut Ali the 52 week jail term suspended for two years, Judge Martin Walsh told him any offence of domestic violence where injury was caused merited an immediate custodial sentence.

But he ruled he was just able to allow Ali to keep his freedom as he warned him any future offending would mean him going straight behind bars.

In the first attack Ali kicked his wife five or six times about the legs causing serious bruising, said Miss Sharonjit Bahia prosecuting.

She told Wolverhampton Crown Court that in the second assault Ali pushed his wife so hard she fell and sustained a cut to her head.

Mr Bahia said the couple had an arranged marriage in Pakistan and Ali afterwards successfully applied for his wife to join him in the United Kingdom.
