The suspect is Asian, 5ft 3in, thin and has short black hair.

Woman is indecently assaulted

Police have appealed for help tracing a man who indecently assaulted a woman in the street.

The 24-year-old victim was targeted in Queens Road, Clarendon Park, Leicester, last week.
A man approached the woman and touched her indecently at 9.30pm on Monday, March 25.
The incident happened near the junction with Greenhill Road.

Shropshire paedophile jailed for seven years

Jailed paedophile Mohammed Ali Sultan had sex with a 13-year-old girl in his car after taking her to a lay-by and slapping her, a court was told.


The 26-year-old married man had first asked the girl to perform a sex act when she was just 12 years old, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Sultan, of Victoria Avenue in Wellington, was yesterday jailed for seven years after the court was told of a string of sex-related offences with children and youngsters.
He was told he would have to serve an extended period on licence and banned from working with children for life.
Sultan admitted having illegal sex with two teenage girls - including the 13-year-old.
He was also sentenced for taking a third teenager from Telford to have sex with workers at a fish and chip shop.

Police want to track down Angolan national in connection with Holloway rape allegation

Detectives want to get in contact with Roberto Gouveia about two assaults that occurred in Holloway near to Camden Road and Brecknock Road on September 11, 2011.

Anyone who can help officers track him down is asked to contact the Sapphire Unit at Islington Police on 020 7421 0282 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Mr Gouveia is a 33-years-old Angolan national, 5ft 8in tall and of stocky build. He occasionally wears glasses and was last known to be based in the Hornsey area. He has links to Scotland.

Lodger jailed after raping young girl

A rapist who attacked a 12-year-old girl has today been jailed for 14 years.

Ahmed Shirinzoy, attacked the victim at an address in Hayes. He had claimed that he had visited a friend who had given him a spiked drink, causing memory loss.

The 22-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison after he was convicted of two counts of rape last month following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court

The court heard that on May 29 Shirinzoy was lodging at the address when his victim returned home.

On the pretext he wanted to ‘borrow’ her families vacuum cleaner, Shirinzoy approached the girl, made advances towards her before punching her several times and then raping her.

Following her ordeal, the child managed to run away and raise the alarm. Police were called and Shirinzoy was arrested a short time later at the address.

Toxicology tests later disproved Shirinzoy’s defence of memory loss, as did DNA evidence taken from his victim.

Detective Constable Lucy Mawdsley, said: “Shirinzoy is quite obviously a predatory sex offender who subjected his victim - a child - to the most horrendous of ordeals.

“I would like to pay tribute to this young girl who was incredibly brave and courageous in reporting the rape to the police and having the strength to give evidence against.”

Sajan Karunakaran denies sexual assault charge at Yardley Wood nursing home

A nurse has been suspended following allegations that he groped a female colleague at a care home during a night shift.

Sajan Karunakaran, who is in his 30s, worked at Bramley Court Residential Nursing Home, Yardley Wood, Birmingham, until the alleged incident in July.

He was arrested on site and suspended by his bosses pending an investigation.

Mr Karunakaran was later charged with sexual assault.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) have imposed an interim suspension for 18 months on Mr Karunakaran, meaning he cannot work as a nurse anywhere else during that period.

He is due to stand trial over the incident at Birmingham Crown Court on January 30 next year.

The panel’s chair Miriam Karp, said: “We decided that the pending prosecutions gave cause for concern.

“The panel was mindful of the fact that the NMC had not produced any evidence of the underlying facts of the allegation. However, we are of the view that the fact that the evidence is sufficiently compelling for the registrant to have been charged with sexual assault by the Crown Prosecution Service was an important factor in our deliberations.

“The charge was serious in nature and raised issues not only of public protection but also the wider public interest. In the panel’s judgement, public confidence in the profession would be undermined if no order was made in respect of a registrant awaiting trial.”

Mr Karunakaran did not attend the NMC hearing which was held on November 6.

His solicitor Gareth Beynon wrote to the panel saying his client could not make it due to ‘domestic and financial issues’.

It also stated that Mr Karunakaran denied the sexual assault charge and had collected numerous positive character references from colleagues.

In the letter Mr Beynon asked the panel not to impose an interim suspension.

Suspension

He stated his client had no intention of gaining work as a nurse until his trial had finished and that if he was acquitted he did not want a suspension on his nursing record.

The panel dismissed these pleas saying that it was not practical to allow Mr Karunakaran to work even under strict conditions.

“We considered conditions of practice but decided the nature of the allegation was such that no conditions could be formulated at this stage which would adequately protect the public and safeguard the public interest,” added Mrs Karp. “Therefore, an interim suspension order is both necessary and proportionate.”

Council chiefs vow to bring child grooming offenders to ‘justice’

COUNCIL chiefs in Rotherham today vowed to bring sexual predators to justice for targeting young children in the town.

The vow came after the disclosure of confidential police and council documents and intelligence files on the sexual exploitation of children in South Yorkshire.

They revealed that for more than a decade South Yorkshire authorities have been aware of a growing culture of men targeting vulnerable young English girls to groom for sex, but give a series of shocking examples of where offenders have never been prosecuted.

Police shut down Rochdale takeaway in ‘child grooming’ probe

A Rochdale takeaway has been shut down as part of a new probe into the alleged sexual exploitation of children.

Tariq’s Pizza Plus, in Milnrow, was slapped with a three-month closure order by a magistrates court after an application from police and licensing officers.

A man who previously worked at the takeaway has also been banned from associating with a number of named people said to be ‘at risk of sexual exploitation’.

The probe was launched after Rochdale council received a number of alerts.

The allegations were passed to police and yesterday Bury and Rochdale magistrates granted the closure order.

Supt Chris Hankinson, based at Rochdale, said: "In recent weeks, we have been informed about a pattern of anti-social behaviour relating to an individual who worked at these premises. An investigation is ongoing, but we felt it was important to take proactive measures to safeguard any children who may come into contact with this individual.

"As a result, we issued him with a number of abduction notices which prohibit a person from associating with named individuals when they are at risk of sexual exploitation.This individual no longer works at, or associates with, the premises.

"Working in partnership with Rochdale council, we have now secured a temporary closure of the premises to ensure that any risk to vulnerable youngsters is kept to a minimum while the criminal investigation continues."

Jeanette Staley, Rochdale council’s community safety manager, said: "An application was made at Bury and Rochdale magistrates’ court to allow us to close Tariq’s Pizza Plus, in Dale Street, Milnrow.

"We were acting on community intelligence and police concerns. The council have reasonable grounds to believe that in recent months crime and disorder related to the premises has occurred.

"The court granted the application and the premises will now close with immediate effect for three months."

Married GP at village surgery accused of being 'serial groper' of women over 28 years

A doctor who was respected in his community has been accused groping some of his female patients over the last 28 years.

A court heard how Doncaster GP Gousol Islam is alleged to have fondled the breasts of eight women and girls, stroked their thighs, performed a sex act, touched them intimately and once even exposed himself in incidents dating back to 1970.

Prosecutor Michelle Colborne claimed that during intimate examinations patients were never offered a chaperone and also claimed that he 'went beyond what was necessary'

She said at Sheffield Crown Court: 'He invited them to undress in his presence and instructed them to lie exposed on his treatment couch without a blanket or paper towel to protect their modesty. He would then wash his hands in an obsessive manner post-examination.'

The allegations relate to intimate examinations of female patients at the Lyndhurst surgery in Stainforth, Doncaster where Dr Islam, now 70, worked until 2009.

Miss Colborne added: 'He was well-liked and trusted by the local community and by his patients but with other naive female patients he abused that trust and exploited their naivety in situations where these women and girls, some very young, sought his advice for the most intimate matters,' she said.

'He treated them to sexual innuendo, over-bearing advice and in many instances sexual assault. He succeeded because as the GP in a close-knit community he was in a position of trust and status and power.'

Islam, of Doncaster, denies 19 offences of indecent assault and one offence of outraging public decency by exposing himself to a patient. The offences date from January 30, 1970 to May 31, 1998.

The doctor was suspended by the General Medical Council in September, 2010 after the allegations came to light.

A woman who was depressed after her marriage broke down was quizzed by the GP about what sort of sex she enjoyed before he performed a sex act with her.
