Reduced prison term for Mullah Krekar

An Oslo appeals court has sentenced Islamic cleric Mullah Krekar to two years and 10 months in prison for issuing threats. He was acquitted of charges of encouraging terrorism.

Earlier this year he had received a five-year prison sentence from an Oslo City court.

Krekar was also ordered to pay NOK 130,000 in compensation to persons whom he had threatened, including head of the Conservative Party (Høyre), Erna Solberg.

The Prosecutor had asked for seven years in prison, while Krekar's defence council had asked for an acquittal.
