Ex-West Midlands police chief may face charges in probe

A high-flying former West Midlands police chief could be facing criminal charges after complaints were made about his “abrasive” management style following his move to a Scottish force.
Superintendent Steven Reed, 37, faces an anxious wait as prosecutors decide whether to press ahead following allegations made against the officer who was responsible for policing Glasgow’s east end.

Mr Reed, who as a Detective Chief Inspector led the West Midlands Police investigation into the 2011 riots, has been moved to another role at Strathclyde Police HQ while a complaint is investigated.

The force’s professional standards unit is thought to have interviewed up to 40 police staff in connection with the inquiry.
