Suspected rapists and child abusers could be granted anonymity, the country’s top prosecutor said yesterday.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer said the change will be considered under a shake-up of the way sex cases are handled.

Hundreds of allegations dropped by police could be reopened in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

The rules on naming suspects will be discussed as part of a wider review
