left wing social workers are to be based in schools

A radical ( Left )new scheme being planned by Lancashire County Council will see social workers in schools.

County Hall wants to roll out the idea to as many schools as they can after a nine-month trial proved a big hit.

The project has already been approved by the Schools Forum, made up of teachers, governors and other educationalists, which has agreed to part fund it.

The idea is to get social workers to support a caseload of children on the roll of a particular school or group of schools and be physically based in a school.

It is hoped that by having daily contact with children under their care, and a closer working relationship with schools, children will benefit and will be less likely to need statutory intervention as they get older.
