Hundreds of paedophiles who view child porn online avoid criminal charges every year, a Mirror investigation has found.

Some are getting just a caution for possessing, downloading or distributing the sick images.

Even more are having cases against them dropped as officers decide to take no further action – NFA.

Of 1,348 child-porn arrests in the past year across 25 of the UK’s 43 police forces, 895 suspects were charged – equivalent to 66%, or two-thirds.

Another 195 – or 14.5% – were cautioned and 258 cases, or 19%, were NFA. More suspects were cautioned or faced no further action than were charged in three forces – Avon and Somerset, West Midlands and Durham – figures for 2011/12 show.
