'Serious concern' over number of Asians arrested and released without charge

Race equality groups say they are “seriously concerned” by figures showing Asian people in parts of Wales are significantly more likely to be arrested but released without charge
Figures showed more than two thirds of Asians arrested by Gwent and Dyfed-Powys police are released without charge.

Asian people were 18% more likely to be arrested and later released by Dyfed-Powys Police, and 14% by Gwent Police.

Aliya Mohammed, CEO of Race Equality First said: “The disproportionate number of ethnic minority people arrested and later released without charge raises serious concerns about the police and racism – evidence, once again, that more needs to be done to address this issue within police forces across Wales.
