Liverpool to stage its first St George’s Day festival next month

LIVERPOOL will stage its first St George’s Day festival next month in honour of England’s patron saint.

The free event was organised to promote the city’s historic quarter, which was named after St George.

The day-long festival will feature the debut appearance in the city of CBeebies character Mike the Knight with historical entertainment provided by the Plantagenet Medieval Society, which will recreate the pageantry, excitement and action of medieval combat along with courtly dancing and music.

There will also be a funfair and various themed stalls, along with a fancy dress competition for youngsters.

The focus of the festival will be around St George’s Hall and St John’s Gardens, with indoor activities taking place at the World Museum and Walker Art Gallery.
