Molesting women in the street is ok because

Masuad Ismaili initially denied any wrong-doing because he thought his behaviour was acceptable in "liberal" UK.

Ismaili attacked the women during daylight hours in November 2007 and January 2008. But he then failed to surrender to the courts and was 'at large' for four years.

AN ILLEGAL immigrant has been jailed after he groped three women in a shopping precinct – just a few weeks after he arrived in Stoke-on-Trent.

Failed asylum seeker Masuad Ismaili carried out three separate sexual assaults at the Potteries Shopping Centre, the indoor market beneath the complex and just outside the mall in Broad Street, Hanley.
The 30-year-old initially denied any wrong-doing because he thought his behaviour was acceptable in "liberal" UK.

Ismaili attacked the women during daylight hours in November 2007 and January 2008. But he then failed to surrender to the courts and was 'at large' for four years.

He was finally arrested and convicted of three counts of sexual assault and one charge of failing to surrender to bail last month at North Staffordshire Magistrates Court.

He was sentenced to 21 months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday.

Prosecutor David Bennett told the court Isamaili's first victim was waiting for her husband in the shopping centre, when she was approached by the defendant.

Ismaili kissed her on the cheek, then moved behind her, putting his arms either side of his victim and rubbing himself against her in a suggestive manner.

He then said to her, "very nice, very sexy". He left after the victim signalled to another shopper.
The next victim was walking along Broad Street when Ismaili approached her, close to the junction with Bethesda Street.

Mr Bennett told the court: "She tried to ignore him, but he took hold of her hand.
"She told him to 'get off' and the defendant put his arm around her shoulder and touched her left breast.
"He began kissing her face and neck. She shouted to get off her, she then ran off and hid until the defendant had left."

The third attack took place at the indoor market.

Mr Bennett said: "The victim tried to walk away but the defendant took hold of her arm and pulled her back. He put his arms over her shoulder from behind and rested his hands on her breasts.

"She took hold of his hands and told him to, 'get off'. He kissed her on the cheek, but she managed to get the attention of a security guard and the defendant walked away."

This time, security staff were able to follow Ismaili on CCTV cameras and he was arrested by police and later identified by all three victims.

Mr Bennett added: "He is an Iranian national who came to the country in 2007, a few weeks before the first offence. He is a failed asylum seeker."

Mitigating, Tony Cooke told the court: "He didn't feel he had done anything wrong at the time. There was no grabbing, or holding, he simply touches a female's breasts. There was no trying to get these ladies on their own, it was all in public places and each incident was short lived.

"It was ill-advised behaviour by someone who had only just come to the country and thought it was more liberal than it was."

Mr Cooke said Ismaili was moved from Stoke-on-Trent to Wolverhampton by Immigration services shortly after the offences and said he didn't realise he was due to appear before the courts.

Ismaili, of Lester Street, Wolverhampton, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for each of the three counts of sexual assault, to be served concurrently, and a further nine months for failing to surrender to bail, to be served consecutively.

He was also placed on the sexual offenders register for seven years and banned from working with children.
Judge Robert Trevor-Jones told him: "There were three separate occasions involving three victims who were strangers to you. You approached each of them, engaged them in conversation and proceeded to touch them by kissing or touching their breasts, despite the fact that they made it quite clear they wanted none of it."
