A 17-year old girl was walking along Lancaster Avenue when she
was approached by two Asian men.
The men walked behind her into Milnshaw
Park, at which point, she was viciously assaulted by them.
The victim was punched several times and received a small cut to her face, believed to have been caused by a small craft knife.
Detective Inspector Jill Johnston said it seemed to be a completely unprovoked attack.
She added: "We are very keen indeed to trace the people
responsible and we would ask anyone with any information to come forward
as soon as possible.
"Fortunately, the girl’s injuries were only minor but she was clearly left very shaken by what happened.
"In particular, we believe there was a man, thought to be in his
60s who was walking a ‘Westie type’ dog may have witnessed what happened
but has not yet spoken to police. I would ask him, if he sees this
appeal, to get in touch with us – he could have vital information."
The first of the two men has been described as being Asian, in
his late teens to early 20s, about six feet tall and of slim build. He
was wearing a black tracksuit.
The second man has been described as Asian and again, late teens
to early 20s. He was around five feet six inches tall of stocky build
with a distinctive tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was also
wearing a black tracksuit.
The incident happened at around 9.05am on Friday, September 28.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police by
calling 101 and quoting reference number EL1204043. Alternatively,
information can be passed to the Independent charity Crimestoppers by
