Compromise reached on mosque

Opponents of a £4m town centre mosque plan say they are now “satisfied” a compromise decision has been reached.

Accrington Business and Residents Association campaigned against proposals in 2009 to relocate the Grimshaw Street Mosque on Steiner Street.

The scheme was delayed after mosque leaders said they could only accept the land freehold on religious grounds. Council bosses have now rubber-stamped an agreement with the mosque committee to instead move the mosque to an adjacent piece of land on Grimshaw Street.
