Seven Kings man beat wife as she held baby in her arms

Mohammed Saqib, A “volatile” husband who subjected his wife to a “disgraceful” beating as she held their nine-month-old baby in her arms has been jailed for two years.

Mohammed Saqib, 27, of Capel Gardens, Seven Kings, rained blows on Aisha Ali after he mistakenly believed she had pocketed £100 of his cash.

The couple’s four young children were forced to witness Saqib repeatedly punching and kicking their mother in an “ugly” attack which left her with multiple bruises to her arms and legs.

Ms Ali was left “traumatised” by the cruel assault in Hickling Road, Ilford, on July 6, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Saqib has numerous previous convictions for violence, including a serious attack on his mother-in-law for which he was jailed for 21 months in 2009.

He claimed Ms Ali’s injuries were self-inflicted, but was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a trial at the court, which concluded this week.

But jurors cleared him of a further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one of common assault.
