Muslims should not celebrate Anzac day because it is a "superficial, jingoistic" date that marks Australian colonial aggression against the Muslim world, according to radical Muslim group Hizb ut Tahrir.
Mainstream Muslim groups rejected the group's stance, saying Anzac day had nothing to do with religion.
Hizb ut Tahrir, banned in many countries but not Australia,
says government requests for Islamic schools to note Anzac day is an
unacceptable imposition of foreign values and history.
Australia, both in the past and now, "supports an
international framework of deceit, exploitation and destruction led by
the US and European powers".
