Wife of convicted terrorist is cleared

The wife of a convicted terrorist has been cleared by a jury of failing to tell police her husband was plotting a bombing campaign.

Salma Kabal, 23, was today found not guilty of failing to disclose information about terrorism to West Midlands Police, following a week-long trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

Her estranged husband Ashik Ali was, along with co-conspirators Irfan Naseer and Irfan Khalid, convicted in February of planning to explode up to eight suicide bombs in the UK.

Ali, of Balsall Heath, was convicted of three counts of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts, Khalid four counts, and Naseer five, including planning, funding and recruiting for their scheme.
