Jailed: Rochdale brothers who ran £100k bootlegging con

Two brothers who set up a secret ‘bootlegging’ warehouse have been locked up for a £100,000 tax fraud.

Disgraced company directors Imran Awan and Shakeel Awan were arrested after customs officials interrupted a delivery of illicit booze to the premises of Liquorflow, at Trafalgar Business Park, Broughton Lane, Salford. The consignment was one of a number brought in by a nationwide smuggling operation which cheated VAT.

The plot involved a network of crooked wholesalers and hauliers pretending they were importing booze to Europe and then diverting loads to UK warehouses without taxes ever being paid on the goods.
