Al-Qaeda terror drone fear: £1,300 pilotless plane 'could blow up Big Ben'

They could get one loaded with Semtex and GPS guidance systems and launch a murderous attack on London from as near as France

al-Qaeda could destroy Big Ben with cheap drones packed full of explosives, a military expert has warned.

Christopher McKeating said terror chiefs can buy a basic pilotless plane for as little as £1,300.

But for £6,500, or $10,000, they could get one loaded with Semtex and GPS guidance systems and launch a murderous attack on London from as near as France.

A timer on the drone could delay its take-off for up to six months. There would be little chance of detection prior to any attack.

Mr McKeating said: “For $10,000 a drone with a payload of 50kg could be placed outside Paris, wake up in six months, take off for London in the middle of the night and destroy Big Ben… live on the net with running commentary.

“That is the price the terrorist would pay today. The price tomorrow will be much less.”
